- LDS Friends Web Ring. A new Web ring for LDS member home pages. Add a bit of coding to your own home page to join the ring. To be included in the ring, a site must be positive about the gospel. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/3044/LDSFriends.html

The Best Search Engines -- submit link
A few of the growing number of search engines on the Internet.
- Zion Search LDS Search Engine, For Families on the Internet This search and navigation service for LDS Information on the Web.
- Ask Jeeves Ask questions, and this Internet "butler" searches many places for an answer. Pretty cool.
- Dogpile Most comprehensive search engines I've found.
- AltaVista. A search on the term Mormon* (the * is the wild card that causes the search to return words like Mormonism and Mormonania), returned 39,260 hits. AltaVista gets a rating of A. View the site at http://www.altavista.com
- America Online Mailing List Directory. This is a nice site, more useful than most. A recent search on the term Mormon* returned six mailing lists, including the Overland Trails discussion list with references to the Mormon trail. This site earns a B+. The America Online Mailing List Directory is online at http://ifrit.Web.aol.com/mld/production
- Deja News. A recent search on the word Mormon* turned up 6,734 newsgroup messages. Search features include pattern matching (the use of partial words with wild cards), filtered searches, and time-sensitivity ranking. For depth and scope as well as ease of use this site gets an A rating. Visit Deja News again and again at http://www.dejanews.com
- Excite. A search on the term Mormon* brought up only ten hits, but then suggested ten additional search terms such as Mormonism, Nephi, LDS, and, er, humorless, polygamy, and watchtower. Harumph. For its limited capacity, despite its ease of use, this site earns only a C+. You'll find all this excitement at http://www.excite.com
- Infoseek. A search on the term Mormon* returned 5,191 sites, and notified me of related topics "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" and "Jehovah's Witnesses." Guess it's pretty obvious who provides the greatest volume of sites using the name of the Church. It's mostly a fairly useful engine, but because of the annoyances, it gets only a B- rating. Infoseek hides out at http://www.infoseek.com
- InfoSpace. Directory information is also available for federal, state, and local government offices. The downside? It's awfully slow. But because it appears to do everything it's advertised to do-and that's a lot-this site rates an A-. Make space at http://www.infospace.com
- Liszt. A search on Mormon* located ten LDS mailing lists. For its ease of use, depth, and scope, Liszt gets an A- rating. You'll find the site listed at http://www. liszt.com
- Lycos. Searching on the term Mormon* turned up 4,933 links. For basic ease and convenience, this is an A- rated site. Lycos lies at http://www.lycos.com
- Magellan Internet Guide. Magellan was able to generate 840 hits from the search term Mormon*. Because full access is always a plus and its options are good too, we rate this a B+ site. Explore Magellan at http://www.mckinley.com
- Search.Com. C|NET's tool Search.Com is designed to be a user-friendly search vehicle. Features include links to telephone and e-mail directories. Search topics include Arts, Business, Computers, Employment, UseNet, and Web. Search.Com is one of several sites powered by the AltaVista search engine. Searching on the term Mormon* generated 13,053 hits. Search.Com also found related search terms "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," "Parks & Wilderness Areas," and "Museums & Parks in Utah." Sure beats "Watchtower"! As a high point in a long list of excellent search engines, this site gets an A rating. Start your search at http://www.search.com
- Starting Point. Searching on the term Mormon* generated exactly 0 hits, but the engine did manage to return links to several related sites. Starting Point's searches require jumping through a lot of hoops. It does have some redeeming features, though: overall ease of use, and an ability to customize. For that it moves up from an F to a mere D. Get started at http://www. stpt.com
- WebCrawler. A search on the term Mormon* returned 1,602 easy-to-read links. However, many of the listings seemed to be dated; the sites no longer exist. In spite of that, we still rate WebCrawler a B+ for its ease of use. Crawl over to the site at http://www.webcrawler.com
- WorldPages. Missing your old mission haunts? WorldPages might be worth a look. It's an online business telephone and fax directory that claims to provide access to numbers in more than 100 countries. At the time of writing, Hong Kong companies were listed, but Europe appeared to be on hold. For that reason, we'll rate this site a C. You'll find it at http://www.worldpages.com
- Yahoo. A search on Mormon* generated only 126 hits, an unhealthy number of which are mean-spirited in nature. The editorial decisions that go into adding a site to Yahoo make it a tremendously out-of-date, and biased, collection of sites. Add to that the fact that it fails to index the content of the pages it lists, and Yahoo is an all-around non-starter. The hierarchical structure gives it some value, though, so Yahoo rates a grudging B-. Do your own whooping at hollering at Yahoo's Web site, at http://www. yahoo.com
